JOU grad, Kernel editor THIRD in nation in news writing

Megan Boehnke, JOU '07 and the 2006-07 editor of the Kentucky Kernel, took third place honors in the National Writing Championship sponsored by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.

Boehnke qualified to compete in the championship by finishing first in the nation in opinion writing during the 2006-07 Hearst news writing competition. The finals were held in San Francisco June 4-10.

Boehnke will receive a $3,000 scholarship for her achievement. She is interning this summer with the Lexington Herald-Leader, and will spend the fall in Washington, DC on a post-graduate political reporting internship.
